River Run at Rhythms on the Rio
This is the coolest out & back ever! You run or walk UPSTREAM alongside the scenic Rio Grande River, then float DOWNSTREAM to the finish line! There are two distance options: 5K Run & 5K Float or 1Mi Run & 1Mi Float.
You float down on a tube or some other flotation device – one that is aided only by your hands and feet – no paddles, motors or flippers allowed. River tubes with handles are available to purchase during registration or you can bring one of your own. The only little catch, or obstacle to overcome, is you need to carry your flotation device during the run portion. Put your arm through a tube, carry it overhead, strap it on somehow – you’ll figure it out. Note that you can share a flotation device that is made for more than one person. There are some fun ones out there, like a giant swan that a family with small kids could share or tubes made for two or more that have built in coolers (to carry bottled water in, of course).
The race is during the popular Rhythms on the Rio Music Festival and race participants get discount to kick back and enjoy band after band after the race. Stick around for Saturday’s lineup of 7 amazing bands including the headliner “The Infamous Stringdusters”, or make it a whole weekend. Discount passes for racers are $25 for Saturday only (vs $45) or $50 for the whole weekend (vs $80) including 15 great bands and camping right next to the festival. 15 and younger are free.
